Tips and Advice

Cooking in bulk
You can now cook in bulk, freeze your food in handy sized portions and defrost them as required. Have a look at some baby recipe books, triple up the ingredients and then make a bulk batch (see the links page for great recipes).

Cool off the pots in the fridge and then place them in plastic bags in the freezer. Label each pot to remind you what the food is and when you'd made it. My husband once tried to feed my little boy homemade vegetable stock, because I hadn't labeled it. It was only when he said it looked a little runny that we found out what is really was!

Fill the pots up and leave a little space at the top as water expands when frozen.

Hygiene
Please ensure that you thoroughly clean the pots before using them and after each use to maintain good hygiene. Always use the lids provided to keep the frozen food fresh.

7 Weaning Hints
- Constantly smile and praise your baby when feeding them
- Don't show a reaction when your baby refuses food - praise them for trying and
take it away - try to keep totally positive as you scrap it in the bin!
- stop when baby wants to stop - my pet niggle is hearing ' just one more for
   mummy'
- babies are wary of bitter & sour foods -a genetic design to ensure they only eat
what's safe and acceptable. Keep offering vegetables, again and again. It may
take a while before babies will start to accept some foods.
- monkey does what monkey sees - our babies see more than we think and will look
at how we react to our foods and copy.
- be brave and embrace strong flavours: eg: garlic, onion, medium/strong cheese,
   curry, red,  peppers etc...
- variety, variety, variety - ever heard ' oh he doesn't like broccolli', or 'that's probably
going to be too strong for him'.....Let them try it out.  I once watched my 15 month
old consume 3 onion bhajee's, and my oldest munch his way through an entire red
  pepper.
